Night Opera
I heard the moon sing last night
a full bodied aria
maybe from Madame Butterfly
she took down her hair
shook herself free
from all her ornamentation
and the song began quietly
growing with her danced arc
she sang until she set
a performance that made me weep
sorrow, joy and hope
all found within her light
O Moon, sing again
send your voice to me
at the setting of the sun

I particularly like the opening of this, Pamela.
Thank you for this wonderful poem.
Beatiful! We’ve all enjoyed her concerts at least a time or two… Love your title!
the moon is a betwiching woman indeed. this was beautifully written. it reminded me so much of a piece i wrote on her as well where i also used the word “aria.” i see we think alike
Truly beautiful. I’ll never look at the moon the same way again!
Very lovely. What a wonderful read!
I loved this. “danced arc” struck me as especially beautiful.
Yes – “a full bodied aria” – on a clear summer’s night would be beautiful.
I loved this piece, its delicacy, its tenderness. Beautiful. thank you.
wow! – such a beautiful take on the prompt, such a wonderful personification of my friend the moon, taking down her hair and shaking herself free of ornamentation — truly enjoyed!!!
Supreme imagery and stillness that leaves one with no words but the human insistence that words be found, and so I whispered, “Lovely,” knowing full well it would fall short when heard.
I shall stand and applaud, yelling, “Bravo” to your beautiful, love-filled poem.
…she sang until she set… just as she rises the setting is just as magical.. beautiful
Absolutely beautiful and breathtaking! A great write!
I too love Madame Butterfly. What a lovely, lyric response to this prompt from Sunday Scribblings. Your lines bring her to life so evocatively, and then the moon. Ah!
“sorrow, joy and hope
all found within her light”
Simply fabulous.
Oh, you have a beautiful blog, and am delighted to have reached here.:)
