Dawn’s Door
the doorway beckons
dawn pauses
as I walk through
crickets call for day
as shadows retreat
slumbering summer
awakes

I love ’slumbering summer awakes’. How long we seem to wait for this event! Thanks for this, Pam!
“slumbering summer awakes” is such a wonderful mention by way of introduction to the day at this time of year, for indeed, a walk through butterfly meadows surrounds us with a multitude of sounds and miniature worlds of other creatures. Lovely.
Slumbering summer….It is the season that marks time with its lazy eyes only half open. Beautiful, Pam.
Those first four lines are truly intriguing.
“..as I walk through
crickets call for day..”
I like how you create a picture by describing the sounds around you. Great job!!! x)
“Doorway beckons” - gives the doorway a living/breathing perspective! At times, it may seem that way!
I live in Boston now, and haven’t heard those crickets “call for day” in a long, long time. It brought back memories of the small towns in the midwest where I would visit my grandparents.
I took it for granted back then because I wanted to live in the “Big City”-Well, here I am and now I miss it!
Thank you for the memories, and a great poem.
Rich visuals, love “dawn pauses” I want to be there.
And I hope passing through this door was good for you! Exciting poem-I love stepping into the unknown.
Lovely photo that beckens to the waiting day. Your poem says it well. And thanks for this week’s prompt and photo.
These words are just so lovely and evocative.
very nice, you pick just the right words to describe summer
A lovely tanka, and a fabulous picture to go with it. I like this week’s prompt. Thank you.
