I Give You (for Rick)

Category: My Poetry

I give you my hair

weave it into a garment

loose and flowing

flecked with the sun’s golden light

I give you my mouth

take it for sustenance

soft upon yours

filling your lips with murmurs and sighs

I give you my bones

fasten them here and there

strong and solid

reflections of my love for you

Pamela Olson, 8/13/08

Written for my husband of almost 29 years

and inspired by the prompt at Poefusion

“They want to make buttons out of my bones”

from a poem by Gregory Corso

Pam this is a beautiful tribute to your 29 years together. Congratulations on the many happy times you’ve shared and the struggles you’ve worked through to get where you both are now. And to the many happy years ahead. Thanks for sharing such a poignant poem with us. Have a nice night.

Our anniversary was on the 11th. August is a good month to marry in, isn’t it? Happy Anniversary.

We all forget a line or two sometimes and in this case forgetting it didn’t hurt your poem at all. I still think this is a wonderful poem. Matched only by its deep meaning to the two of you. Have a nice day.

29 years, congratulations… that a poem could be written with such heart after 29 years… truly a blessing…
