Lull

say the word “lull”
slowly
feel your tongue
surround the vowel
cup it within your mouth
not wanting to let it go
out past your lips
into the space beyond
your mouth loves this word
your tongue wants it to rest
wants it to remain
within you forever
echoing against
your teeth and cheeks
say the word “lull”
and you’ll know what I mean

I do know what you mean. I think this process can be applied to many beautiful words. It’s a slowing down and savoring of sound and meaning together. Are any poets fast readers?
very sexy. love the sensuality this poem exudes
I think every one of my cells enjoyed this poetic exercise, not just my speaking parts!
lolloping lolloping lolloping lull
lolloping lolloping lolloping lull
bears and mountains
princesses and grief
all a story within a story within a story about a story
So true! Some years ago I realized that the songs I love most are the ones where the singer sings each word slowly and completely as it flows sweetly into the next, as though every single syllable has value.
Another impressive poem. I like your imagery, the words, and the originality of the theme of the poem.
A great observation. So true.
WOW! Such a small but active word when savored slowly.
I’ll never look at ‘lull’ the same way again! Thanks for this lovely exercise…I never thought of this word in such a rich and meaningful way.
Oh yes, I really “lull” this!
How enjoyable that was:) Not only are the words arranged so beautifully that it feels so good to read out loud, but I’ve learned something! Now, that’s my kind of poetry.
I think your poem might be something I’d like to recite on a regular basis….
That is awesome. I love a poem I can roll around in my mouth!!
Try it with LOL, this more fun.
I used the LOL way before it was used in IM’s, Text Messages, e-mail, or social networks.
It stood for a ‘Little Old Lady’ who was always the innocent party in a soured business dealing. I taught Business Law at San Jacinto College.
..
this is awesome! lull is one of those words that really sounds what it means! you capture that perfectly in the poem.
Wonderful word savor -
lovely and sensual
Lull…………
thought i was in some speech class discussing manners of articulation ^^
nice poem pam.
I am a slow reader and I am no good at articulation but it is how you feel towards a word that is important. For me the word Lull is not like the word Beauty or Infinity.
Interesting post!
..a beautiful poem about a beautiful word..many thanks..
I’m practicing! Ha..its echoing..
Wonderful!
I did say it.
Not just once, not twice, but many times..haha! Thank you for an enjoyable time, and lovely poetry.
I like this one a lot.
