Exultation is the Going

Highway 101 Southern Oregon Coast
exultation is the going
wrapped in metal and fiberglass
down the coast highway
one-oh-one calls through
sea air and steep curves
beware sunken grades
and ever-sliding soil
axle-breaking potholes
and the halting advance
of the RVs hogging the road
exultation is the going
north and south
curving along the headlands
over the bridges (metal on metal)
past the deserted dunes
hop in the car and buckle up
turn left or right—it’s up to you
travel somewhere or
nowhere at all
for exultation is the going
