The Mere Idea of Lying Down
- after a line by Jose’ Saramago in Blindness
the waking dream
brings the feel of silken sheets
brushing along bare arms
bare legs
a caressed remembrance
dim light of a shaded lamp
lit long into the deep darkness
throws soft shadows of curtains
moving in and out
breathing with the night breeze
mere difference between lamp
shadow and night
just a change in temperature
as fingers move from warm light
to cool darkness
a memory of sleep
lies on the skin
like a body searching in the bed
for the hollow prepared for it
by the mere idea of lying down
