A River Waits

Pistol River Oregon

the river waits

mouth to sea

salt and fresh water

intimate liquids

I rest by its side

I Give You (for Rick)

Category: My Poetry

I give you my hair

weave it into a garment

loose and flowing

flecked with the sun’s golden light

I give you my mouth

take it for sustenance

soft upon yours

filling your lips with murmurs and sighs

I give you my bones

fasten them here and there

strong and solid

reflections of my love for you

Pamela Olson, 8/13/08

Written for my husband of almost 29 years

and inspired by the prompt at Poefusion

“They want to make buttons out of my bones”

from a poem by Gregory Corso

Wake Me

Category: My Poetry

wake me when you rise

shadow and light fall

softly on the stone stairway

bars of soft shadows

imprison me here

at the bottom of the stairs

stone cool against my feet

charm my climb

wake me when you rise

your pale light guides

me in a dark journey

across night’s map

ancient sky sojourner

when I return home

will I find light and

moondust in my hair

Sisters with Purpose

Category: My Poetry

see the clouds dance

sculpted by air currents

change is their constant

still the waves move

changing– always changing

but their essence remains

always the dunes move

shifting with the wind

but sand is still sand

we are gathered as sisters

together– yet separate

four hearts but only one purpose

Sweet Taste of Time

Category: My Poetry

the wings were twisted

delicate and fine as

your silver hair

locked in amber

carefree

untouched by time’s passing

will you decant this for me

chase the meaning of the words

shout the words aloud

oh taste the ambered wonder

feel the trembling timber of trapped wings

while we drink of time’s sweet honey

Meditation on a Daisy

Category: My Poetry

sit in the meadow

beside the yellow daisy

contemplate her splendor

descend into her goodness

drink her nectar

refresh yourself

summer is brief

soon the snow will fall

Folly’s Labyrinth

Category: Tanka and Haiku

folly has risen

a deep shadow

dim and dank

constant confusion

truth rests hidden

in a labyrinth

made of half-lies

and almost-truths

follow its light

strong but distant

listen for the beacon’s

ringing call

hybrid series was written

Cycle of Sighs

Category: My Poetry

sighs in the heavy air

sighs caught in branches

hanging down like Spanish moss

sighs draped like spiderwebs

gauzy and laden with dew

sighs wound like prey in a net

sighs among the leaves

quivering in greenness

sighs falling to the soft soil

sighs running down the trunk

trapped in the crevices

funneled toward the roots

sighs pulled upward again

locked within trunk and branches

then set free— to sigh again
