Suzanne Pleshette, a light comedienne with a wonderfully sexy, husky voice, has died of respiratory failure. Although starring in well over a hundred features and television episodes, she will doubtless be remembered primarily as Emily in the Bob Newhart Show and as Rod Taylor’s also-ran girlfriend in The Birds, in which she meets a gruesome end at the beaks of the titular critters.
