A Scene from Day for Night
Aug 26th, 2008 | By Rick | Category: Classic Cinema, Clips and TrailersHere’s brief scene from François Truffaut’s Day for Night that evokes a love of cinema better and with more economy than any other I can think of. Truffaut (right) plays Ferrand, the director of the film Meet Pamela, and Jean Champion (left) is his producer. As Ferrand receives a package of books about film, he gets a call from Georges Delerue, his composer. Enjoy!

I haven’t seen Day for Night, but I loved that clip. I kinda wish Truffaut would have thought to keep piling them on and on and on until it became wonderfully absurd.
I’ve always loved how the New Wave guys made it a point to promote their heroes so blatantly.
Yes, they did … but it’s really not like a promotion, more like a loving tribute. It comes right in the middle of wrangling over whether to recast a pregnant actress or not, and it’s like he’s saying “ok, you know this stuff we’re worrying about? It doesn’t matter all that much when you get to do something this wonderful, like make a movie …” It’s almost like a mid-stream time-out, a reminder of what it really is what it’s all about.
Well said. “Promote” was not the best choice of words.
Finally just watched this. One of my fave moments from the film…
Yeah, it’s just a nice little interlude, and yet is still reinforces the theme of the picture.
Welcome to the Creek, Christian! I enjoyed your piece over at MovieZeal
It is one of my fave moments too, I love it.
Mine too …
