Don LaFontaine, 1940 – 2008

Voice artist Don LaFontaine died yesterday in Los Angeles from complications of a collapsed lung.  Reportedly the voice of over 5,000 trailers and 350,000 commercials,  he became something of a minor celebrity in recent years, appearing on talk shows and newsmagazines.  Through these appearances, we could put a name and face upon one of the iconic voices of our time.

In a world without Don LaFontaine, who will voice all those trailers?

This seems to be quite a major loss to our pop culture, yet nobody seems to be talking about it (besides you). I would love to see a complete list of his trailers.

I was just listening to a local talk show, and they said that he would go from studio to studio on work days and just knock out voice over after voice over and pick up a check out the door!

It will definitely be interesting to hear our trailers next year. Maybe Jesse Ventura will narrate.

I’d like to see a list too. I bet it would be amazing. He was prodigious.

I heard it on Good Morning America this morning, where they describe him as a “friend of the show.” How many other voice artists can say that?
