ha! ha!…A great clip from the film (”Blazing Saddles”) that I have not watched yet, but actress Madeline Kahn’s “parody” of actress Marlene Dietrich is too funny!…That’s great stuff!
dcd, if you haven’t seen Blazing Saddles you should. It’s not Brooks’ funniest — it falls apart in the 3d act — but Harvey Korman, Madeline Kahn and Brooks himself are very funny.
I found YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN an inflated bore, with lame humor and nauseating repetition. But that’s my take.
BLAZING SADDLES on the other hand is a hoot (especially the racist jokes involving the black sheriff, and that unforgettable interchange between that sheriff and an old woman: “Hello, Ma’m, and aint it a lovely morning—old lady’s response, “Up Yours, n _ _ _ er!” Of course the old lady apologized later on. But your Madeline Kahn bit (yes we lost her way too soon, tragically) is marvelous too.
THE PRODUCERS is the only Mel Brooks film that tops BS.
Sam, I really like “The Producers” too … though I think you’re selling “Young Frankenstein” short. I think as far as sustained satire goes — and by that I mean creating a consistent, from scene to scene tone — it’s hard to beat. I think “Blazing Saddles” is hilarious, but not as cohesive, more like a series of thrown-together elements that aren’t necessarily related. “Young Frankenstein” is a parody/satire of horror films, right down the line.
What’s with all this “tired” stuff…. I go away for a bit and see that Lapper is “tired”, Bill is “tired”… uh, what?? Pull up your bootstraps, I’m still waiting on some Salo clip breakdowns from you!

Hi! Rick,
If your readers, want to find out why (you) wanted to “strangle” actress Madeline Kahn (as Trixie Delight) half the time…tell them to mark their calendar(s)…
on Saturday, September 27, 2008…because that is when TCM plan to air Peter Bogdanovich’s 1973 “classic” film “Paper Moon.”
She was great. I loved her the most, I think, in one of my favorite ever movies - What’s Up Doc?
Daniel, she was great in What’s Up Doc? … she was only 57 when she died. What a shame, cut off in her prime like that.
I loved her in Paper Moon as well, where you wanted to strangle her half the time.

Totally agree. The first two acts are incredible though. Probably some of the funniest gags in all of film.
Brooks’ best would be YOUNG FRANKENSTIEN, also starring the beautiful and funny Kahn.
Joe, I especially like the scene in the GOV’s office with the ping-pong paddles. Priceless.
I’m also tired. Maybe for my post today, I’ll just link to this one.
Bill,
The old blog grind’ll get to you if you don’t watch out. And I wouldn’t be averse to you pointing to this post …

Rick, I don’t begrudge you that take an dI respect you for saying it. Most of my friends agree with you, and I have fought it for years. LOL.
Why must we always fight? Can’t we all just be friends? (cue the orchestra with the sappy strings …)

First, I gotta see Salo … but, have I told you, I’m tired?
But we just want you back, my furry friend, you’re the glue that holds it all together …
